Programa de Mentoría Avanzada UPM
Targeted training for senior students that strengthens self-leadership, communication, and emotional management to improve support for incoming students.
Who is it for?
Senior students as mentors
Description
The Advanced Mentoring Program of the UPM School of Forestry reinforces the existing mentoring scheme through specific training aimed at senior students; its purpose is to improve the quality of support received by incoming students.
Competencies developed
- Self-leadership: tools to guide one’s own performance as a mentor.
- Communication and active listening: techniques for effective dialogue with mentees.
- Emotional management and conflict resolution: resources to handle difficult situations during mentoring.
- Knowledge of the university and the design of an action plan focused on supporting new entrants.
Purpose and benefits
The program’s main goal is to enhance the quality of support incoming students receive by training senior student mentors. For mentors, it provides a structured training pathway that organizes and reinforces key skills; for mentees, it aims for more structured and higher-quality support during their university adjustment.
Approach
The program serves as complementary training to the existing mentoring system, delivering practical content oriented to real university practice. It does not promise specific outcomes, but intends to professionalize and systematize the student support role.
