Sammen om en jobb Mentorprogram
Mentor program connecting immigrants and refugees with higher education to experienced mentors in Norway, featuring a digital learning platform, workshops and networking to strengthen employment prospects.
Who is it for?
Immigrants with higher education (minimum bachelor's degree)
About the program
Sammen om en jobb works to help people with higher education who arrived in Norway as adults use their qualifications in relevant jobs. The program combines individual mentor support with a digital learning and networking platform, plus physical and digital meeting places for skills development and contact with the business community.
Who is it for?
- The target group is immigrants and refugees with at least a bachelor’s degree.
- The program requires Norwegian language skills at level B1 or higher, but also accepts participants who speak fluent English even if their Norwegian is at a lower level.
- The offer is for people who came to Norway as adults and is open to, for example, family-reunited persons, students and refugees.
What is offered to participants?
- Mentor pairings with mentors who have experience from the mentees’ own sector in Norway; mentors provide guidance, introductions to networks and insight into Norwegian workplace culture.
- Digital learning and networking platform with courses, webinars and professional groups (for example for engineers, IT, teachers, economists) that support both mentors and mentees throughout the program.
- Possibility to make the mentee profile visible to employers in the network if the mentee wishes.
- Digital workshops and in-person gatherings that serve as social arenas for skills development and meetings with potential employers.
- Individual follow-up from the mentor and access to company networking via partners.
Duration and admission
The mentoring process lasts about 6 months after matching. The program has rolling admission and emphasizes that participant motivation often determines the timing of the start.
Results
The program has documented significant effects: In 2024 the project matched over 160 participants with mentors, and in 2025 it also reports over 160 matches. Over 50% of participants obtained relevant employment, internships or further education within six months after completing the program. Mentors report increased awareness of diversity and inclusion; many continue as mentors, and around 90% would recommend others to become mentors.
Organization and collaboration
The project is built with support from foundations, municipalities and county authorities, and works closely with businesses that contribute funding, pro bono IT support and mentor recruitment. Sammen om en jobb also collaborates with other organizations in the field for experience sharing and joint events.
Why participate?
- For mentees: receive tailored guidance and network opportunities that increase the chance of finding relevant work or education in Norway.
- For mentors: contribute to inclusion, expand your own network and increase awareness of the value of diversity in the workplace.
