BI Norwegian Business School mentorprogram
A peer-led guidance scheme at BI supporting students’ academic development, social integration and study progression.
Who is it for?
New and continuing BI students; experienced BI students as peer mentors.
Overview
BI Norwegian Business School runs a student guidance scheme as part of its broader efforts to improve the start of studies, encourage social and academic integration and reduce dropout. In 2020 more than 100 students took part in supporting the academic development of fellow students through this peer-led initiative.
What the scheme aims to do
- Provide peer academic support and study guidance to students, particularly in early years of study.
- Facilitate social integration and closer cooperation between students and the institution.
- Contribute to preventive work against dropouts as part of a suite of student support measures.
How it fits into BI’s student support
The mentoring scheme is one of several measures BI has introduced to improve study progression and learning experiences, alongside enhanced onboarding, data-driven follow-up of vulnerable students and pedagogical support from the Learning Centre. These institutional efforts have been linked with an increase in degree completion metrics and wider digital teaching developments.
Benefits for mentees and mentors
- For mentees: practical, peer-based help with academic tasks, study strategies and social integration to strengthen confidence and retention.
- For mentors: an opportunity to develop communication, coaching and leadership skills while contributing to the learning environment.
Who typically participates
The scheme involves BI students as both mentees and peer mentors. It complements formal academic supervision and programme-level student representation structures.
