Who is it for?
Elite athletes and military personnel
About the mentoring scheme
The mentoring scheme in Neste Steg offers individual follow-up from experienced mentors for participants in the programme. The mentor acts as a sparring partner and supports reflection, clarification and personal development during the transition to the next stage of a career or life.
What the mentee receives
Key functions are personal follow-up, feedback and access to new knowledge and perspectives through the mentor's experience and network.
- Individual mentor follow-up for one year after participation.
- Active listening, constructive feedback and questions that promote reflection.
- Encouragement of learning and new ideas based on the mentor's experience and perspectives.
- The mentor facilitates the mentee finding their own solutions; it is not the mentor's role to secure a job or provide ready-made solutions.
What mentors gain
As a mentor you have the opportunity to make a difference for an elite athlete or defence employee by sharing experience, offering sparring and contributing to transition processes. The mentor role also provides access to a wide network of other mentors.
- Collaboration and exchange of experience with other mentors.
- Opportunity to contribute to individual development during transition phases.
- Encouragement to open doors in one's own network to support mentees' development.
Examples of mentors' backgrounds
Mentors represent a broad range of Norwegian working and organizational life, with connections to among others:
