Who is it for?
At‑risk students, scholars and cultural workers
Programme overview
The UNE Mentoring programme connects international scholars and professionals with students, academics and cultural workers who are at risk or affected by conflict and persecution. The scheme focuses first on those impacted by the Russian war in Ukraine and, secondly, on people at risk across East‑Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
What the programme offers
- One‑to‑one mentoring matches created and supported by a team of assistants and volunteers.
- A curated database of emergency resources and opportunities for scholars, students and cultural workers in precarious situations.
- Collaboration with partner organisations while operating as a stand‑alone UNE project for safety reasons.
Who can get involved
- Mentees: students, scholars and cultural workers displaced or at risk in the specified regions.
- Mentors: international academics and professionals who wish to support at‑risk peers through mentoring and practical guidance.
The programme publishes introductory materials (video and FAQ) explaining its aims and practical arrangements. In 2026 the UNE mentoring team operates with support from the Stichting van Well van der Snoek, and the programme acknowledges support received from the Democracy & Media Foundation in 2025.
