The Intercultural Mentoring Program at the University of Stuttgart connects incoming international degree students with experienced student mentors for a guided first semester in Stuttgart. The program emphasizes intercultural exchange, practical support during the start of studies, and regular one-on-one contact between mentor and mentee.
Who is it for?
- New international students beginning a full-degree Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at the University of Stuttgart.

- Experienced students who want to act as mentors and support newcomers while developing intercultural and mentoring skills.
What the program offers
- One-on-one mentoring with an experienced student for one semester, ideally from the same study area.
- Practical support with study organisation, campus orientation and getting to know Stuttgart.
- Opportunities to practise German and learn about German culture through everyday interaction and structured activities.
- Preparation and ongoing support for mentees and mentors, including a short online meeting and an introductory seminar with basic intercultural training.
- A programme of student-run workshops and courses, plus recreational activities such as roundtables, excursions and online events.
- Kick-off events that present available workshops and enable meeting other mentors and mentees.
Commitment and format
The mentoring relationship is structured for one semester with regular meetings between mentor and mentee; the programme provides coordination and support to help ensure effective mentoring partnerships. In some cases, mentors can be matched with mentees before arrival to ease the first days in Stuttgart.
