Who is it for?
Roma clients serving alternative sentences
About the program
Roma mentoring provides support to Roma clients involved in probation and mediation who are serving alternative sentences. The aim is to overcome obstacles that prevent compliance with sentence conditions and to help clients maintain family and social ties while working on changing their lives.
What mentors do
- They locate and contact clients in the field and clearly explain the sentence conditions and the consequences of non-compliance.
- They support clients in fulfilling the alternative sentence and in communication with authorities.
- They connect clients with other services they may need (social counselling, employment, etc.).
Why we do it
An alternative sentence is served in the community, which allows maintaining family and social ties and gives convicted people a better chance of long-term behaviour change without returning to criminal activity. Roma mentoring focuses on reducing the barriers that prevent fulfilling these sentences.
