Mentoringový program pro Ph.D. studenty Univerzity Hradec Králové
Supports UHK Ph.D. students' academic progress and career development by sharing mentors' experience from academic and non‑academic environments.
Who is it for?
UHK Ph.D. students in all years
About the program
Program goal is to support Ph.D. students during their studies, the transition to defence, and in building a career both in academia and beyond. The program is suitable for Ph.D. students at all stages.
Role of the mentor and difference from the supervisor
Mentoring does not replace supervision. While a supervisor guides the candidate to a successful defence of the dissertation, a mentor shares personal and professional experiences from specific work environments, tasks, or situations and can provide inspiration for professional and personal life. The content and scope of the shared experience depend on the agreement between the mentee and the mentor.
Collaboration process
The mentoring format is flexible — timing, scope and form of meetings are adapted to individual needs. The program usually includes:
- an introductory workshop to prepare and formulate mentoring goals,
- creation of an individual mentoring plan,
- selection of mentor(s) from a database or approaching mentors chosen by the participant with coordinator support,
- regular or ad hoc meetings by agreement,
- a final meeting to share experiences and provide feedback.
Option of multiple mentors allows combining different perspectives and experiences within a single mentoring path. The program emphasizes open communication, individual goals and practical support for professional development.
